 Transform Furniture

Transform Furniture Project began in December 2006. This community based project works towards overcoming poverty and social exclusion and is driven by 3 main aims:

  • Providing quality reusable furniture and electrical household items to disadvantaged local groups, such as people moving out of homelessness, are unemployed, on a low-income, in receipt of benefits, elderly and disabled etc.

  • Creating training and employment opportunities for local people having difficulties in finding a job.
  • Reducing the amount of household goods that end up in landfill.

The project operates by collecting donations of household items from the local public, free of charge. The items are inspected, and where required, refurbished to ensure they meet safety and cleanliness standards. Items are then resold to people referred by local agencies or through service level agreements formed with voluntary/statutory housing agencies. Low prices are charged to offset the project’s operational costs and are not reflective of the value of the item being sold. Customers visit Transform’s retail outlet where they are free to select the items they want and need to help make a house their home.

The project has had a significant social, economic and environmental impact on the local community, and has received considerable praise and support from those benefiting from its service:

“Without the project’s help, I wouldn’t have been able to furnish my home.” Single Mother.

“I was living in a house with hardly any furniture. I was referred to Transform in the morning, picked my living-room and bedroom furniture from the showroom at lunch time and had it delivered to my house by 3 o’clock.” Young single girl.

“A huge thank you to all staff at Transform Furniture Project. I’ve referred many clients and staff have always been EXTREMELY helpful, informative and fair as well as friendly” Statutory referring agent.

“I’ve donated furniture a few times to the project. I think it’s a great scheme. I’d rather someone else had use of the items than having them dumped in the local skips.” Member of the local public.
